Description

The following information relates only to my variation of the Batman Universe and does not tie into any existing Batman universes.

The model used in the image came from WWE 2K16's Create-a-Wrestler suite.

Please note that Cassandra's backstory is going to differ significantly than mainstream Batman lore.

Affiliations: Batclan

Cassandra Cain was born to accountant Hilton Cain and his wife, Opera Singer Regina Cain. Upon her birth, it was discovered that Cassandra suffered from a unique form of dysphonia which rendered her mute. Her vocal chords didn't vibrate at all when she tried to use her voice. As a result she has lived her entire life without a voice or being able to speak. This inability to speak drove her to find different means of communication. She proved to be a fast learner for other forms of communication but carried a laminated sheet of various common words and phrases to assist with communication early on.

At the age of eight, however, tragedy struck when her father, an unwitting mob accountant, discovered his employer's dirty deeds and tried to turn state's evidence against them. Unfortunately the mob found out and on a snowy winter night, as the Cain family walked home from dinner, Hilton and Regina were forced into an alleyway and murdered. Cassandra witnessed all of this and was spared by the gunman who didn't believe her worth the bullet. As she cried silently over her parents' bodies, she looked up and saw the Batsignal shining in the sky overhead and became inspired to adopt the Batman's methods to find her parents' murderer and bring him to justice.

She found shelter with the St. Jerome's Orphanage and Catholic School for Girls where she befriended a reformed Irish hacktivist turned Catholic Nun named Anne O'Patrick. With Anne's help, she honed her skills in preparation for the day she would launch her investigation into her parents' murder. She used grant money from the Bruce Wayne Foundation (a charity that provided money to children orphaned due to crime and helped them to survive) to pay for martial arts classes, learning to read her opponents' body language and anticipate their next moves, as well as learning parkour and various free running technique. She also acquired the necessary tools and equipment she'd need to pull off her investigation, even crafting her own "Batgirl" costume.

Finally, at the age of 14 she began her investigation. Her investigation eventually led her to mob assassin turned mafia don, Roman "Black Mask" Sionus who unwittingly confessed to the crime in her presence. Fortunately for her, the Batman had been on her trail as well and together with the aid of Robin and Nightwing, along with the remote help of Batgirl (in her first role as Oracle), they apprehended Black Mask's goons along with Sionus himself, although Anne was mortally wounded in the process. Sionus was permanently scarred with a black rubber skull mask having been seared to his face during the fight and his crimes laid bare. After putting her parents' ghosts to rest, she was approached by billionaire Bruce Wayne who subtly revealed his identity as the Batman to her. Bruce offered to adopt her, having been impressed by her self-taught skill and offering her a more permanent part of the Batclan. This invitation doubled as an offer to adopt the young Cassandra, an invitation which she accepted.

After joining the Batclan, Cassandra went through several months of additional training and received her own costume (maskless version shown above). To accommodate her mute nature, a voice synthesizer tied into an augmented reality keyboard on her gauntlets allows her to communicate via radio when possible. She also can use a built-in tone emitter as a simple Morse-code communicator.

Like Batman, Cassandra follows the strict no-killing rule. Her adherence to it is owed to her catholic upbringing. She is an agile fighter and prefers to use speed and precision strikes to down her opponents. Her nimble and flexible frame makes her a formidable foe as well, capable of contorting her body to deliver vicious strikes. She's an avid Sherlock Holmes fan, having learned to make deductions from the observance of trifles from reading the entire Sir Arthur Conan Doyle library. She also is a skilled pianist, something she owes to her late mother's love of music.

To explain her silence while in the field, the explanation varies. Batman usually doesn't give an answer while Robin and Nightwing both seem to be competing to come up with more and more outlandish explanations. Cassandra has begun writing the explanations down for the sake of comedic preservation.
