Description

This is one of my ships from my Star Wars Fanfiction Series: Star Wars: The Shadow Wars. The series is currently between "Seasons."

Note: The information below is from my own universe which is a blend of old and new canon and it not to be considered canon in any other universe but mine. I should also mention that this ship is canon (at least Legacy Canon) but its history is significantly different as far as my universe is concerned. I'd also like to mention that old Legends Canon claims this ship was destroyed in the Battle of Endor but official canon and even watching the space battle scenes of the Battle of Endor doesn't show the ship getting destroyed so we're assuming it survived Endor.

The image was acquired through the Star Wars: Warlords Mod for Homeworld 2 Classic.

"I have a special fondness for the Redemption. It's a symbolic vessel indeed. It is a ship that gives others a helping hand." "Oh~h shut up Farm Boy!" "What?...oh." - Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade Skywalker regarding the Redemption whilst making an unintentional pun regarding Luke's cybernetic hand (installed on the Redemption).

The Redemption is perhaps one of the most famous Nebulon-B frigates in history. Originally an Imperial Escort frigate, the Redemption was stolen by the Rebellion and converted into a medical frigate. It was on the Redemption that Luke's right hand, lost during his duel with Darth Vader at Bespin, was replaced with a cybernetic prosthetic made with synthflesh. His original hand had been recovered (along with his father's lightsaber) but medical droids deemed the damage done to the hand to be too severe for reattachment. The Redemption managed to narrowly survive the Battle of Endor, despite suffering damage from TIE Interceptors and Imperial Star Destroyers during the battle. It was also targeted by the Death Star's superlaser at the beginning of the battle but escaped destruction as the Death Star's superlaser was sabotaged by Galen Marek on his rampage through the battle station on his way to confront the Emperor and Darth Vader.

For years afterwards the Redemption continued its faithful service to the Rebellion and then the New Republic, serving as a medical facility and treating the sick and injured. In 27 ABY, the Redemption was starting to show her age. She'd served more than 25 years overall, fought on the front lines of countless battles, and was now finally ready for decommissioning. However, the breakers yards over Kuat would not be the Redemption's fate as, at the last minute, the Jedi Order purchased the vessel and paid for a full restoration, a complete overhaul of the ship's systems. Now up to modern specs, the Redemption serves as a vessel of good will for the Jedi Order. The Redemption was in the final stages of her overhauling when the Shadow War broke out in 28 ABY and was unable to assist in the Evacuation of Yavin. Afterwards, the Jedi Order has started using the Redemption to carry out missions of mercy to planets that have been affected by the war. Like the Spirit of Obi-Wan, the Redemption is typically crewed by members of the Jedi Temple Guard. The Redemption's medical wards are staffed mostly by Jedi Healers and a variety of medical droids, some of which are very old.

Jedi Master T'ra Saa has since assumed command of the Redemption and serves as the Chief of Medicine on the vessel. Sullustian Captain Vebis Nuel serves as the Redemption's Captain in the absence of any Jedi. Vebis washed out of becoming a Jedi Padawan but wanted to serve the Jedi Order anyway and joined the Temple Guard, having previous experience as part of Jedi Master X2's Grey Squadron.

When the Jedi acquired the Redemption, it was suggested that the ship be renamed. It ultimately wasn't but Maris Brood made a coy suggestion that the ship be renamed "the Hand of Skywalker" or "Luke's Hand," a macabre reference to the fact that Luke's cybernetic hand was installed on the Redemption after his Duel at Bespin in 3 ABY.
