"My mother was a beast with the old RZ-1. It's the fighter I trained on. Fast, nimble, and can outrun a TIE Interceptor. The fact we're still using the RZ-1, along with the X-Wing, just shows how good the A-Wing is." - Lieutenant Poe Dameron regarding the RZ-1 A-Wing Interceptor.

The RZ-1 A-Wing Interceptor, or simply the A-Wing, has been the Interceptor of choice for the New Republic since after the Battle of Yavin. Based on the design of the older R-22 Spearhead, the A-Wing boasts a higher top speed than its old Imperial TIE Interceptor counterpart and in combat tests continues to outperform the TIE Interceptor. Where as the X-Wing is considered the fighter that killed the Death Star, the A-Wing is considered the fighter that kills Super Star Destroyers. This is of course a reference to the suicide run that A-Wing Pilot Arvel Crynyd launched on the Executor during the Battle of Endor, an attack that sent the Super Star Destroyer colliding with the Second Death Star, destroying it.

The A-Wing has remained a mainstay of the New Republic fleet along with the X, Y, and B-Wing Starfighters. The New Republic's Phoenix Squadron consists almost exclusively of A-Wings, all painted in green markings and are known for their hit-and-run offensives. Even into the Shadow Wars, the nearly-thirty year old A-Wings continue to serve faithfully. Modern A-Wings have undergone comparatively minor upgrades to their systems since Endor, usually to minor systems. Incom-FreiTek are rumored to be working on an RZ-2 A-Wing to replace the RZ-1 but so far these are merely rumors. Most regular A-Wing pilots are more likely to believe this rumor than others, considering that Incom-FreiTek only recently finished the development of the T-70 X-Wing which is gradually replacing the older T-65 model.

That's a pretty cool A-Wing fighter picture and I am a big Star Wars fan myself and I do know that is the Alliance's fastest fighter and it's pretty cool but houses very little protection though and you have to use your speed to dodge lasers rather then rely on shields because the shields are very, very weak so it cannot handle too much abuse but does pretty good at taking out those Star Destroyers and it's a cool fighter indeed!
