Sith Acolytes & Sith Inquisitors
During the reign of the Galactic Empire, Darth Vader, operating under Palpatine's direct orders, assembled a group of Force Sensitives and fallen Jedi that had joined the Empire after succumbing to the Dark Side of the Force. These Inquisitors were, at first, led by fallen Jedi Knight Barriss Offee until her death at the hands of Ahsoka Tano over Onderon in 17 BBY. Her duties as the leader of the Inquisitors then fell to a Pau'an Jedi Temple Guardsman turned Inquisitor who became known as the Grand Inquisitor, answering directly to Vader and the Emperor. Vader never learned the circumstances surrounding Offee's death, only that she had been killed near Onderon. Vader suspected that there was more to her death than a mere accident and suspected (correctly) that the Emperor knew but refused to divulge the information. Only the Emperor and the Grand Inquisitor would know the truth and the Grand Inquisitor was forbidden from sharing the information with Vader.

The Inquisitors were all trained to use a state-of-the-art spinning doublebladed lightsaber. The weapons were meant largely for intimidation as Vader, recalling some of his past encounters with Grievous and his use of rapidly spinning blades, proved an effective intimidation tactic for even skilled swordsmen like Vader. The duties of the Imperial Inquisition involved hunting down fugitive Jedi, identifying potential Force Sensitives, hunting down Jedi/Sith artifacts, and occasionally infiltrating Rebel cells under the guise of being a Jedi survivor of the Great Jedi Purge. For nearly 20 years, the Inquisitors faithfully hunted Jedi for the Empire. However in 5 BBY, the Grand Inquisitor was killed battling a former Jedi Padawan onboard Grand Moff Tarkin's Star Destroyer in orbit over Mustafar. The Inquisitors were then deployed to try and find this escaped Padawan but they could find no trace of him or the crew of his Rebel Cell following the Cell's escape from Lothal. Afterwards, the Inquisitors returned to their regular tasks for three more years.

In 2 BBY, the Inquisitors were sent after Galen Marek, Rahm Kota, and Maris Brood, the Jedi of the newly formed Rebel Alliance. The Inquisitors were unable to defeat the three but did make it a little harder for the Rebellion to carry out some of their missions. Finally, Kota hit upon the idea of taking the fight to the Inquisitors instead and opted to lure them out to a fight on their terms. Galen, Maris, and Rahm lured the Inquisitors out to the Malachor system, to one of the few surviving planets within the system where a Sith Temple had been constructed around 3600 years prior to Yavin. There the three Jedi successfully ambushed the entire Imperial Inquisition. The Inquisition, by this time, consisted of seven Inquisitors and all seven were sent to Malachor but all seven of them were killed by the three Jedi. Galen's body count was easily the highest, having killed five of them almost singlehandedly while Maris and Rahm combined killed the other two, and even then it was on accident as the two killed by Brood and Kota were killed when the temple collapsed on top of them. Galen had easily slain the other five using the Vaapad lightsaber form. When Vader arrived long after the Jedi had escaped the massacre, he reported the death of the Inquisitors to the Emperor who shuttered the Inquisition, instead focusing on expanding the Emperor's Hands as Force Sensitive spies and agents to cover the same duties as the Inquisitors only more covertly. This incident became known amongst Galen, Maris, Rahm, and later Anakin Skywalker, as the Malachor Massacre and would continue to haunt Galen for much of the Galactic Civil War over how easily he had allowed himself to lapse back into the Dark Side, making him question his worthiness of being called a Jedi.

The only survivor of the original Inquisition was an Inquisitor named Naare who was tasked with hunting down the Kyber Saber and in the process identified a Force Sensitive youth named Rowan Freemaker. However she would disappear for nearly 30 years until being found on Anch To by Luke Skywalker and the rest of the Freemaker family. She would then be swiftly defeated and killed by Skywalker in self-defense..

By 28 ABY, however, the Sith Empire and the First Order of the Sith had rebuilt and reestablished the Inquisition. However the Inquisitors were largely born of clones of the ancient lesser Sith Lord, Darth Magnus the Resurgent. These cloned Dark Jedi were divided into two categories: Acolytes and Inquisitors. Acolytes serve as force sensitive shocktroopers, serving on the front lines of the Shadow Wars and are typically dressed in black armor with a hood, using variable models of lightsaber. The Inquisitors on the other hand are considered part of the Empress's Elite Guard and personally hunt out Force Sensitives amongst the Empire's citizenry within the Empire's territory and amongst their own volunteer soldiers. Additionally the Sith Inquisitors seek out potential traitors to the Empire and endeavor to root them out and eliminate them. Unlike their Acolyte brethren, the Inquisitors wear customized red armor and robes (one example shown above) and receive slightly more advanced training. They are loyal to whoever sits upon the throne and operate to make sure the Empress remains in power. They sometimes work in tandem with Commander 24's 66th Legion in their mission to protect the Empress. The most elite of these Inquisitors, the ones who protect the Empress personally, are referred to as the Praetorian Guard and use a variety of melee weapons in addition to lightsabers.

Both Acolytes and Inquisitors are trained at the Sith Academy on Korriban.
