"I remember those. They weren't so different from the basic TIE Fighter to be honest. Only difference being they could chase you down if you made a run for it." - Maris Brood regarding the TIE Advanced v1

Five years before the Battle of Yavin, the Emperor ordered the development of a hyperspace capable TIE Fighter for Emperor's loyal Dark Jedi within the Imperial Inquisition to utilize in their hunt for Jedi, Force Sensitives, Rebel Dissidents, and Jedi artifacts. To fill this order, Sienar Fleet Systems opted to develop two separate fighters and to let the Emperor decide which to put into full production. Termed the "Advanced Series." This led to the creation of the TIE Advanced v1 and the TIE Advanced X1. The v1 had deflector shields and a Class 5 hyperdrive installed by default as well as a projectile launcher that could be used to fire tracking devices, concussion missiles, or mag charges. The v1 was developed at the Sienar facility on Lothal and was revealed to the public as part of the Empire Day festivities that year. However the prototype fighter was destroyed during a Rebel bombing attack. No one was killed but the prototype was lost. Sienar quickly built a new prototype at a different facility, handing the prototype to the Grand Inquisitor for his personal use. However this fighter was stolen by the Rebels during a daring escape from the Mustafar System and later scuttled to avoid it falling back into Imperial hands again.

However the Grand Inquisitor's initial test flight of the fighter proved its capabilities and the fighter entered regular production, being reserved for the regular Inquisitors and a select few ace pilots. Darth Vader was offered one but he'd found the X1 more to his liking and passed on the v1. Compared to the X1, the v1 is smaller and utilizes articulated solar panels for when it's landing while the X1 rests on its panels. The X1 has stronger shields, a faster hyperdrive, and an experimental targeting computer as well as cluster seeker missile launchers where as the v1 has a faster sublight speed and higher maneuverability as well as a built in life-support system (although pilots were encouraged to wear external life support gear while flying anyway). Eventually the v1 fell out of service as the Empire looked to the X1 more permanently.

The v1's fate was sealed when the Imperial Inquisitors were all killed 2 years before Yavin by Galen Marek, Rahm Kota, and Maris Brood during what became known as the Malachor Massacre. Afterwards, the surviving v1s were mothballed in favor of the X1. Imperial Records originally stated the surviving v1s were stored in a couple of warehouses on Coruscant but Republic Agents following up on the old records have found the fighters missing. Evidence suggests they were stolen. Republic Spies within the Sith Empire have confirmed that the Empire does have the v1 schematics along with all the other TIE Fighter schematics of the old Empire but are not actively producing TIE Advanced v1s.

Due to having been almost exclusively used by the Imperial Inquisitors of the Empire, the v1s earned the nickname TIE Inquisitor.
